12 Aug US DEPLOYS SUBMARINE AND CARRIER STRIKE GROUP TO MIDDLE EAST AMID IRAN TENSIONS
In a show of force, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered a guided missile submarine and accelerated the arrival of a carrier strike group to the Middle East, citing an anticipated Iranian attack on Israel.
The USS Georgia, a nuclear-powered submarine armed with cruise missiles, has been deployed to the region, while the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group has been expedited to the Middle East. The Lincoln strike group includes stealth F-35C fighter jets and several destroyers.
This military buildup comes after Israel killed a top Hezbollah commander and allegedly assassinated Hamas’ political leader in Tehran. Iran and its proxies are believed to be planning a large-scale attack on Israel in retaliation.
The US and Israel are working together to deter aggression by Iran and its allies. Defense Secretary Austin spoke with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, about efforts to counter regional threats.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group is already operating in the Middle East, providing a significant US presence. Additionally, the USS Wasp amphibious ready group, carrying thousands of Marines, is in the Mediterranean Sea.
This strategic deployment aims to send a clear message of deterrence to Iran and its proxies, showcasing the US commitment to regional stability and security.
