15 Aug NIGERIA’S PRESIDENTIAL JETS SEIZED IN FRANCE OVER CONTRACT DISPUTE
In a shocking move, a French court has seized three Nigerian presidential aircraft, valued at millions of dollars, due to a contract dispute between the Ogun State government and Zhongshan, a Chinese company. The seizure has sparked a diplomatic row, with the Nigerian government vowing to contest the order.
According to sources, the contract between Zhongshan and Ogun State was signed in 2007 for the management of a free-trade zone. However, the agreement was revoked in 2016 due to a dispute between the parties. Zhongshan then took the state and federal governments to court, leading to the seizure of the presidential jets.
The Ogun State government has described the seizure as “unfair” and “a new tactic by the Chinese company to seize Nigerian assets in foreign jurisdictions.” In a statement, the government alleged that Zhongshan misled the Paris court about the nature and use of the seized assets.
The Nigerian government has vowed to protect its assets and discharge the order, with the Ogun State government threatening to take legal action. The situation is complex, with many parties involved, and it remains to be seen how it will unfold.
